Unit 36 – Choosing a pathway

This unit builds on work in the previous few units, and asks young people to consider the type and range of post-school pathways that are available to them. Many students focus on one or two easy-to-understand pathways which match their expectations, and avoid more complex pathways which may be more beneficial. For example, many young people (and their parents) harbour university aspirations due to misconceptions about the impact of university on employability, and a lack of understanding about other alternatives, such as an apprenticeship.

In this unit, we’ve pulled together some resources which help young people understand that they have choice over their pathways. We’ve provided some questions to stimulate reflection and thinking, and explained some simple concepts with the aim of expanding their thinking.
