Possible Pathways
To become an architect or landscape architect, one must complete a professional degree program accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) or the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB), respectively. This typically takes five to six years of study and includes coursework in design, construction, materials, structures, and environmental systems. Additionally, aspiring architects must complete a period of practical training, known as an internship, and pass the Architect Registration Examination (ARE), while aspiring landscape architects must pass the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE). These qualifications and training ensure that architects and landscape architects have the skills and knowledge necessary to create safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing buildings and outdoor spaces.
